After 4 years, Assam once more sees anti-CAA protests | India Information

GUWAHATI/DIBRUGARH: After a hiatus of 4 years, demonstrations in opposition to the Citizenship (Modification) Act (CAA) returned to Assam, following Union house minister Amit Shah’s current announcement to implement CAA guidelines previous to Lok Sabha elections.Ten activists of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and its college students’ wing, Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti (SMSS), have been detained in Dhubri, Tinsukia and Hailakandi districts on Thursday.In Dhubri, KMSS and SMSS acitvists lined up on the streets, elevating anti-CAA slogans. 5 of them have been detained by the police however have been launched later together with one KMSS protester in Hailakandi. 4 KMSS activists detained in Tinsukia district have been but to be launched. In Guwahati, too, the KMSS staged a sit-in in opposition to CAA.Assam witnessed violent protests quickly after CAA turned a regulation in December 2019.
