‘Critically’ contemplating commerce ties restoration with India, says Pakistan international minister

NEW DELHI: Pakistan’s international minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar expressed a willingness to “seriously” think about the restoration of commerce ties with India, which have been on maintain since August 2019. Dar made this assertion throughout a press convention in London following his attendance on the Nuclear Power Summit in Brussels, as reported by Geo Information. He emphasised the eagerness of Pakistan’s enterprise group to reinitiate commerce actions with India. He mentioned, “Pakistani businessmen want trade with India to resume.” Dar highlighted that Pakistan will give due consideration to re-establishing commerce relations with India, stating, “We will seriously look into matters of trade with India,” as per the Categorical Tribune newspaper.This stance alerts a possible shift in Pakistan’s diplomatic strategy in the direction of India, which had deteriorated after India’s revocation of Article 370, resulting in the downgrading of diplomatic ties by Pakistan. Islamabad had contended that the unilateral actions in Kashmir hindered the prospect of bilateral talks. Pakistan has constantly maintained that India should reverse its actions in Kashmir as a prerequisite for dialogue, a requirement that India has rejected, asserting the integral nature of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh inside its territory.Regardless of these tensions, each international locations agreed to resume the 2003 ceasefire settlement alongside the Line of Management in February 2021. Current interactions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistan’s newly appointed chief, Shehbaz Sharif, have hinted at a possible diplomatic thaw. Modi congratulated Sharif on assuming workplace, to which Sharif responded with thanks, signifying a tentative opening for improved relations.(With company inputs)
