Google got a fine of 4.6 billion

Google got a fine of 4.6 billion from a Russian court. Why? They didn’t delete stuff Russia called fake and banned, especially about the Ukraine conflict. The court said Google didn’t remove “extremist content” and things Russia calls “LGBT propaganda.” They calculated the fine based on how much money Google makes in Russia.

This isn’t the first time. In November, a Moscow court fined Google for not keeping Russian users’ data. They had to pay 15 million rubles (about $164,200) because they said no to storing data in Russia. Before that, Google was fined in August 2021 and June 2022. Also, in August, they were told to pay 3 million rubles (about $32,800) for not erasing fake news about Ukraine.

In 2021 and 2022, Google was hit with fines of 7.2 billion roubles and 21.1 billion roubles.
