Iranian Guards commander killed in Israeli strike on consulate in Damascus, supply says

DAMASCUS: Israeli warplanes struck the Iranian consulate in Damascus on Monday, and a Lebanese safety supply advised Reuters a senior commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, Mohammad Reza Zahedi, had been killed within the assault. Reuters reporters on the scene within the Mezzeh district of the Syrian capital noticed smoke rising from rubble of a constructing that had been flattened, and emergency autos parked exterior. An Israeli navy spokesperson stated: “We do not comment on reports in the foreign media.” Syrian state tv confirmed the consulate constructing had been attacked. Earlier, Iranian media reported {that a} constructing near the embassy had been hit, and Iran’s scholar information company reported that the goal was the consulate and ambassador’s residence. Because the Iranian-backed Palestinian faction Hamas’s assault on Israel on Oct. 7, Israel has ramped up airstrikes in Syria in opposition to Lebanon’s Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), each of which assist the federal government of President Bashar al-Assad.
