LIVE UPDATES: Menace for tornadoes, hail, sturdy winds as storms transfer by Tuesday

Up to date: 6:19 AM EDT Apr 2, 2024

OKAY, I’LL JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT. IT’S A LOT OF MONEY. THAT’S A LOT OF MONEY. I THINK SOMEONE WHO WILL DESERVE TO WIN THE POWERBALL AFTER THIS DAY. MISS METEOROLOGIST RANDI RICO HOW? IT’S GONNA BE A LONG DAY. WE’VE GOT TWO ROUNDS OF SIGNIFICANT STORMS COMING THROUGH. UH, THIS FIRST ONE HAS THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME DAMAGING WINDS AND HAIL. CAN’T RULE OUT A TORNADO, BUT IT’S REALLY THE WIND AND THE HAIL THREAT FOR THESE EARLY MORNING STORMS. THE REASON OUR WHOLE AREA GOT UPGRADED TO THE MODERATE THREAT IS THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING TORNADO THREAT. AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE BIG MAP, BASICALLY IT’S A BULL’S EYE OVER THE STATE OF OHIO. SO WE ARE TAKING A LOOK AT THE RADAR RIGHT NOW. AND WE HAVE OUR FIRST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING OF THE MORNING IN SOUTHEASTERN INDIANA. SO AS WE TAKE A PEEK BACK HERE, WE’RE GOING TO ROLL INTO PORTIONS OF FAYETTE UNION AND FRANKLIN COUNTIES CURRENTLY UNDER A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. AND THAT’S SET TO EXPIRE AT 530 IN THE MORNING. THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE HAIL WITH THIS PARTICULAR CORE OF THE STORM THAT IS MAKING ITS WAY ON INTO PORTIONS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY. SO, YOU KNOW, IF YOU ARE IN, YOU KNOW, EASTERN PORTIONS OF FRANKLIN COUNTY, YOU HAVE THE CAR PARKED OUTSIDE, BUT YOU CAN PULL IT IN. THERE’S THE POTENTIAL FOR QUARTER SIZE HAIL WITH THIS. AND YOU CAN SEE THE STORM TRACK TAKING IT TO THE EAST AT ABOUT 55MPH. SO ROLLING INTO OLDENBURG HERE IN THE JUST IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF MINUTES, LIBERTY AT ABOUT 455 BROOKVILLE JUST SHY OF 5 A.M. SO YOU HAVE A LITTLE TIME AGAIN, IF YOU’RE IN THE EASTERN PART OF THE COUNTY TO GET THE CAR INSIDE BECAUSE OF THIS HAIL CORE WITH THIS THING AND TAKE A LOOK BACK AS IT ROLLED THROUGH FRANKLIN AND SHELBYVILLE AND RUSHVILLE. IT HAD PEA TO PENNY SIZE HAIL, AND NOW THE POTENTIAL FOR QUARTER SIZE HAIL. WITH THIS, AS IT MAKES ITS WAY INTO OUR AREA RIGHT NOW, A LITTLE FURTHER SOUTH ALONG THIS LINE, YOU CAN SEE SOME HEAVY RAIN, A LOT OF LIGHTNING WITH THIS, AND MAYBE SOME GUSTY WINDS, BUT NOT QUITE AS STRONG. THAT ONE. MOVING IT AGAIN ABOUT 55MPH. SO JUST BARELY NUDGING IN ITS WAY IN TOWARD NAPOLEON, JUST SHY OF 5 A.M. SO THIS IS THE FIRST MORE SIGNIFICANT LINE OF RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING THROUGH OUR AREA UP IN BUTLER COUNTY. WE HAVE A FEW LIGHT SCATTERED SHOWERS RIGHT NOW IN HAMILTON, AND AREAS LIKE FAIRFIELD OVER TOWARDS SHARONVILLE WEST CHESTER SEEING SOME LIGHT SHOWERS. SAME THING AND THROUGH MASON A LITTLE MORE SIGNIFICANT. I’LL CALL IT A MEDIUM SIZED DOWNPOUR OVER TOP OF LOVELAND AND A FEW OVER TOP OF GOSHEN. AGAIN, THESE ARE ALL TRAILING TO THE EAST. NOT A WHOLE LOT OF ACTION RIGHT NOW IN THROUGH NORTHERN KENTUCKY. BUT NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN GREATER CINCINNATI, YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE THE POTENTIAL TO BE DEALING WITH TWO ROUNDS OF STRONG STORMS AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY. SO I WANT TO GIVE YOU THE BIG PICTURE HERE. YOU CAN SEE THIS LINE OF STORMS THAT EXTENDS WELL BACK IN THROUGH AREAS LIKE SAINT LOUIS. AND THEN THE TORNADO WATCH BOX EXTENDS THROUGH ABOUT EVANSVILLE IN OUR AREA. NO WATCHES PRESENT. BUT AGAIN, THAT ONE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING. LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE SEVERE OUTLOOK FOR TODAY. I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE BULL’S EYE OVER OHIO AND YOU CAN SEE THIS ACROSS OHIO ALL THE WAY UP 75 AND 71. IN THROUGH CENTRAL OHIO. THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME DECENT SIZED TORNADOES THIS AFTERNOON, MEANING WE COULD HAVE NUMEROUS TORNADOES. WE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE STRONGER TORNADOES EF TWO OR STRONGER THIS AFTERNOON. AND THAT’S WHY OUR AREA WAS RAISED TO THE MODERATE THREAT LEVEL. IN FACT, IF YOU TAKE A LOOK AT THE TORNADO THREAT FOR TODAY, MOST OF THE WLWT VIEWING AREA IN RED, WHICH IS ABOUT A 15% CHANCE THERE. SO WE’RE GOING TO TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY AS WE GO THROUGH THE DAY. WE HOPE YOU DO TOO. HAVE A WAY TO GET GET YOUR WARNINGS TODAY. THERE’LL BE A LITTLE BREAK IN THE ACTION BETWEEN THE MORNING ROUND AND THE AFTERNOON ROUND, AND THAT’LL BE ENOUGH TO FIRE UP THE ATMOSPHERE AGAIN AND POTENTIALLY BRING AGAIN HAIL, DAMAGING WINDS, TORNADOES IN THAT SECOND BATCH THAT WILL PROBABLY KICK START AGAIN AROUND 3:00 OR SO THIS AFTERNOON. SO LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT THE FUTURE, CAST IT SHOWS THE EARLY MORNING BATCH OF SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING THROUGH. WE HIT SIX AND 7 A.M. KIND OF MOVING TOWARDS SUNRISE. PERHAPS THAT BATCH THAT’S BACK TOWARD ILLINOIS MAKING ITS WAY IN. SO THIS LIKELY TO SLOW DOWN THE EARLY MORNING RUSH. WE COULD DEFINITELY HAVE SOME STRONG WINDS AND A LOT OF LIGHTNING WITH THE EARLY MORNING COMMUTE. AS WE GET INTO THE LATE MORNING, THIS KIND OF MOVES OUT. THERE’S A BREAK IN THE ACTION. 11 NOON, 1:00 THE SUN PEEKS OUT AND THAT’S ENOUGH TO FIRE UP OUR ATMOSPHERE AGAIN. SO AS WE GET INTO THE EARLY TO MID AFTERNOON, STORMS DEVELOP AGAIN MID INTO THE EVENING COMMUTE, I WOULD ANTICIPATE THE POTENTIAL FOR STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS. THAT WINDOW BEING BETWEEN ABOUT 3 P.M. AND 9 P.M. TO BE AWARE OF THAT, THAT POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER. THIS MOVES OUT ON THE BACK SIDE OF IT. TEMPERATURES FALL INTO THE 40S AND 50S AND WE’LL SEE SOME RAIN SHOWERS AND YES, MAYBE EVEN SOME SNOW FLAKES MIXING IN EARLY ON THURSDAY. JUST TAKE A LOOK HERE. YOU CAN SEE THAT BASICALLY 20 DEGREE DROP BETWEEN TODAY AND TOMORROW. THIS IS A VERY STRONG COLD FRONT COMING THROUGH. AND THAT’S WHY WE HAVE THE AMPED. UP THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER IN THROUGH THE SECOND HALF OF THE DAY, ESPECIALLY TOMORROW. OCCASIONAL RAIN SHOWERS THURSDAY MORNING. WE COULD HAVE THAT EARLY MORNING MIX AND THEN TEMPERATURES ON THE
